DESCRIPTION:Join us for the second part in our three-part community reading of Julie Otsuka’s acclaimed novel “When the Emperor Was Divine\,” presented as part of The Big Read with Platte Valley Theatre Arts. \nIn this session\, we’ll explore the third chapter of the book\, also titled “When the Emperor Was Divine.” Together\, we’ll discuss Otsuka’s spare\, powerful prose and the ways the novel illuminates themes of identity\, displacement\, and resilience. We’ll also connect the story to Brighton’s own history\, examining Brighton’s ties to Japanese incarceration. This 90-minute session will blend group reading\, open discussion\, and community reflection. All are welcome — whether you’ve read the entire novel or are just beginning. Light refreshments will be provided. \nAppropriate for ages 18 and older. No advanced registration required. Additional copies of the novel will be available at the program.

DESCRIPTION:Craft & Sip Workshop – Crushed Glass Ornaments – Join us for a creative and fun-filled afternoon at our event! Get ready to unleash your artistic side and create a beautiful piece of glass. \nWe will crafting three 3 inch pieces of wood 1/4in thick. All materials will be provided and guided step by step. Different color options will be available so we can get creative! Resin will be used\, gloves will be provided but not masks if you would like to bring your own that is okay. This project will need a 24 hour drying time so glass will be taken home in a box that is provided during the workshop. \nThis workshop includes a lightbulb\, beer mug\, and candy cane ornament. \nGrab your friends\, family\, or come solo and meet new creative souls. It’s a fantastic opportunity to relax\, have fun\, and create lasting memories. All crafting supplies will be provided\, so you just need to bring your enthusiasm and willingness to explore your creative side. \nDon’t miss out on this exciting event!
